THIS MONTH, ALL 8TH GRADE ENGLISH AND HONORS ENGLISH CLASSES WILL FOCUS ON THE NEW COMMON CORE STANDARDS USING THE EXPOSITORY READING AND WRITING CURRICULUM WHICH HAS BEEN ADOPTED BY THE DOWNEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. STUDENTS WILL PRACTICE READING AND WRITING RHETORICALLY WHILE EXPLORING THE PROS AND CONS OF SOCIAL MEDIA.
Mrs. Chavez’s Art/Design students visited The Stay Gallery on November 12th. Students saw the innovative exhibit entitled, “Bones of Steel.” They also had the chance to view an international poster exhibit for Non-Toxic Revolution by various artists. This included six pieces by renowned street artist, Shepard Fairey.
Honors English 8 and English 8 celebrate “Random Acts of Kindness” this month with a focus on kindness and redemption in literature. Our celebrated authors for November are O’Henry and Langston Hughes, and students are learning about the Harlem Renaissance.
It looks like our amazing custodian has a hidden talent. “Mr. Lucky” as he is affectionately called captured this amazing photograph of the sun rising over our administration building.
This Friday, Nov. 15, we will honor our students who scored a 600 on the CST and earned a 3.5 or better grade point average. Parents will be notified if their child will be recognized at the assembly. Way to go Pioneers!
