Your assignments this semester will include a photogram, great and shallow depth of field, stop and blur action, composition, repetition, and organic and geometric forms. In addition you will be learning about photography from a historical perspective and research a contemporary and historical photographer to present to the class.
Photogram: Something must be cut out, blacked out and left white. Use the whole piece of paper. Make the design interesting, creative and neat. View Student Examples
Great and Shallow Depth of Field: Depth of field is the range of focus in a photograph. Great Depth of Field requires a small aperture and will give you everything in focus, from foreground to background.
Shallow Depth of Field requires a large aperture and will blur

Great and Shallow Objectives and Standards
Stop
and Blur Action: A
stop action requires a fast shutter speed to stop the motion of
your subject. View Stop and Blur Objective and Standards
Composition Composition is the one element that will make your photographs ten times better. You will learn how to compose a photograph that will make it original, creative and more interesting. You will learn how to fill the frame and apply the rule of thirds. The compositional elements we will cover are point of view, leading
line, s-curve and framing.
Repetition Repetition is created when an object repeats. This repetition can create a pattern and add interest to a photo. Diagonal lines used in repetition also create a line for your eyes to move through the image.
Texture Texture is when something looks as though it feels. In this assignment students were challenged to photograph texture with an interesting composition. Photo of a Person During this lesson you will learn how to photograph a person so that it is interesting. You will learn where to crop the photo, how to achieve a simple background as well as how to make it more interesting. Manipulated Print In this assignment you will be required to change your photo in some way or another. Your options are endless. You can draw on your photo, flip the negative, double expose your paper, scratch your negative, cut and paste photo's together, etc.
