Welcome to Downey High's Photo 1 Class Website!

This course is designed to give students a broad overview of the artistic uses of the camera. Students will be provided with a common core of information about the camera itself and the artistic potential for this medium. Basic skills and techniques will be stressed and applied in photographic darkroom experiences. Classes will be enriched through the use of guest speakers and lectures. Each lesson is based around the California State Standards for the Visual Arts. The Elements and principles are applied to each lesson as well. Students will complete a unit on the historical effects of photography as a persuasive medium and analyze the importance of photography in a visual society.

Great and Shallow Depth of Field:

Depth of field is the range of focus in a photograph.  Great Depth of Field requires a small aperture and

will give you everything in focus, from foreground to background.

Shallow Depth of Field requires a large aperture and will blur out the background or the foreground.
