Principal’s Message

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year at Old River School!  We are looking forward to a wonderful year of growth.  We are so proud of many of our accomplishments from the last few years including California Gold Ribbon School, California Title I Achievement Award, the DUSD Shared Values Award in the area of Positive School Culture, and DUSD Carnival of Champions winners!

We know that these years are pivotal in supporting students who value their learning, are college and career ready, and productive citizens of strong character. Our outstanding academic achievement is the result of an amazing team of students, staff, families, and community focused on making sure our students are successful.

We know that in order for learning to happen, students need to know that we have high expectations for them academically and socially.  We have imbedded the Character Counts program into everything we do.  Students know that the six pillars of character are the foundation of our school.  Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship are visible on our campus and are at the core of what we do to ensure that are students will be successful in everything they do.

Each day is a new opportunity for academic exploration and discovery. At ORS, each student knows their #1 job is to learn and every student success is a celebration. We have woven a growth mindset into our school culture where students are encouraged to take risks and we celebrate effort and perseverance. We know that growth happens through support, encouragement, and every mistake we make isprogress towards understanding.

Our students are valued and loved, and our families are always welcomed. Working as a team, the ORS family will continue to achieve. We look forward to having our families on campus for many of our various activities including Coffee With the Principal, STEAM Family Night, Back To School Night, and PTA meetings.

Thank you for letting us be part of your child’s education. Let’s have another spectacular year!

Sincerely,

Caryn Jasich, Principal
