    Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends of Griffiths Middle School,

I can’t believe that this is the last Principal newsletter for the year. I want to start this newsletter with a personal message. As many of you already know, I will be transitioning to the District Office at the end of this school year. These past four years as Principal of Griffiths Middle School have truly been some of the best years of my time in education. I feel so honored to have shared your child’s educational journey with them. I am so proud of all the accomplishments that we have achieved together in the past few years. Two years ago, we received the California Gold Ribbon Award, the Title 1 Academic Achievement Award, and the CTE Exemplary Award. And last year, our school was designated as a State and National Schools to Watch recipient. I am excited about the future achievement of Griffiths Middle School. Our staff and students have worked so hard to create a positive school culture that encourages high academic achievement.

Dr. Garcia, our District Superintendent, will be soliciting input from our school community about my replacement at a meeting on May 6th at 6:30 p.m. in our school cafeteria. Our District is committed to finding the best candidate for principal at Griffiths Middle School.

The extraordinary gains and recognition that GMS recently received were based predominantly on student achievement on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) administered by the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC). These tests are administered each spring and measure how well students in California public schools are meeting the Common Core State Standards. Our students are now in the process of completing these tests on the computer in the areas of English-Language Arts, Mathematics and Science (8th grade only). A letter explaining the entire CAASPP/SBA was sent home before testing. Please continue to support your student during this time of testing by encouraging him/her to do his/her best.

We have an extremely busy schedule at the end of our school year. Please refer to your list of upcoming events below. One message that I have conveyed to students is that school is not over until May 31st. I have asked students to put forth their best effort in these last weeks of school as we still have a lot of material to cover in each of our grade levels before students can move on to the next grade. Our students have been working diligently to reach their goals this school year. It is important that students understand that we must make the most of each remaining school day. Thank you for encouraging your students.

Thank you again for your continued support. We have 4 weeks of school left to accomplish all of our goals for the year. We will continue to work hard towards our collective vision: Griffiths Middle School students will acquire 21st Century skills, be college and career ready, globally competitive, and citizens of strong character.

    Sincerely,

    Rani Bertsch, Ed.D.

    Principal
