  • Scholarships: Current list of national based scholarships are available in the Career Center.  Note: Not to be confused with the Local scholarship-this has its own application/webpage
  • College Entrance exams:  SAT, ACT, and PSAT
  • Monthly College/University visits Downey HS to answer questions regarding admissions etc…
  • One-on-One Advisement regarding the College application process.
  • FAFSA information and important dates to apply for financial aid.
  • Eureka: Computerized guidance database to match skills to Career options and to complete Career Assessments and Career Exploration Projects packets.
  • Naviance is a Career planning website personalized to each student at Downey HS, providing Career Planning, Assessments, College searches and Comparisons. College alert system to notify students of colleges matching their interests visiting DHS.
  • ASVAB Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery-detail career assessment sponsored by the military usually administer each year on campus.
  • CTE class information on how to register for CTE classes and so much more!
  • Work Permits available upon requests to our students ages 13-17

3 Scholarships Due soon: Downey Fed Credit Union , Essay contest and Stauffer Commty College Grant

Seniors Attention Seniors!!! We have 3 scholarships Due very soon, the Downey Federal Credit Union scholarship Due Feb 21, the “How you will make the world a better place” Essay Contest Scholarship is Due Feb 24 and the Stauffer Community College Scholarship/Grant Due Feb 28th.  All of these scholarships are in your Naviance account and are available in the College Career Ctr. A201-Go for It and Good Luck!

Rio Hondo Senior Preview Day

Rio Hondo Senior Preview Day is February 16th. If you plan on attending RH College in the Fall and would like to tour their campus, stop by the College & Career Center in A201 to pick up a permission slip. This field trip has limited seating so first-come, first-serve. Permission slips must be turned in before Feb 9th. Stop by A201 for more information.

K16 Cerritos Complete Parent Night

Cerritos College will be hosting a Parent Night for their new program “Cerritos Complete!” This program is available to graduating Seniors attending Cerritos in the fall. Please join us to hear the benefits of the program, such as FREE tuition and PRIORITY registration, for those who meet the program requirements. The meeting will be  held Tuesday, January 24th in the DHS Theater from 6-7:30. Spanish session will also be available.

Scholarship 4 students who want 2BTeachers

The Downey Educators Association has a scholarship for future teachers.. You must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher, entering College in the fall, Write a brief essay and fill out the application. You may pick-up paper application in A201 the deadline for this scholarship is Feb 9 in A201.
