I have served Downey Unified for 21 years now. I began my career as a teacher at Sussman Middle School and then Stauffer Middle School. I earned a Masters in Counseling from the University of La Verne and became a Counselor at Stauffer Middle School. After a few years, I became interested in Administration and completed my Administrative Credential. I have served as the Vice Principal at Doty Middle School, a Program Administrator at the District Office and then became the Principal at Sussman Middle School. After twelve years as an administrator, I made the decision to go back into Counseling in an effort to get back in touch with students and families. I feel blessed to be back at Doty Middle School. I spend my free time RVing and riding my Harley with my wife. I spend my summers fly fishing every year in Montana and Wyoming.

Mrs. Navarro is our 7th Grade Counselor

Upon finishing my Bachelor’s Degree at CSULB, I had the opportunity to work at Doty Middle School (formerly East) as a Resource Specialist assistant in 2002. At that time, I enjoyed working with students on an individual basis and decided to further my education. I received my Master’s Degree in School Counseling in 2006. I had the opportunity to complete my internship hours at Doty Middle School in 2006 and then started my career that school year as the 7th grade counselor and have been here ever since. Being a school counselor allows for me to work with students on an individual basis and truly is a rewarding career. I absolutely enjoy working with students and opening their eyes to what their true potential is and can be. I have been married since 2008, and we have two boys at home that keep my husband and I very busy. Some of my favorite places to be besides being at home are Yosemite and Cabo San Lucas. I enjoy running, dancing and hiking in my free time.

Mrs. Redfox is our 6th grade counselour

“I began my career in education at the age of 23, as a substitute for the Downey Unified School District.  My first teaching position was at Williams Elementary, where I taught second and third grade for seven years.  After having children, I decided to stay home and enjoy my time with them until they were in school and I could go back to work.  While at home, I opted to go back to school to further my education.  I graduated from Point Loma University in 2007 with my Masters in Counseling.  I have been the Sixth Grade Counselor at Doty Middle School for the past seven years.  Being a counselor is one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had. I have the opportunity to work with amazing people and help shape the lives of the many students I take care of each year.  Being able to prepare students for Middle School and help them navigate their first year as a middle school student, is a job I take very seriously.  My heart belongs to Doty Middle School and I feel blessed to call this school my home.”
