Friday Art Class

October 14, 2016

For our final art project, students created a mosaic using small pieces of torn colored construction paper and glued them to black construction paper. A lizard was sponge painted and added to the mosaic. The lizard was placed on blocks of sponge to give the work of art a 3-dimmensional effect. It was tedious work, but the students persevered and once again created a masterpiece.

Today, students were introduced to pastels. They found out how pastels can be used to create vibrant works of art. Using only two pastel colors, students made a sunrise or sunset. Then, hills and buildings were cut from black construction paper and arranged and glued on the sunrise or sunset. The contrast of the vibrant colors made by the pastels and the black construction paper is beautiful.

Students worked on an an art project that related specifically to the the PTA Reflections theme, “What’s Your Story”. Students brainstormed words and sentences that told about themselves. Then, using tape, they created spaces on a piece of watercolor paper and painted using colors of their choice. When this step was finished, they spattered black paint creating a speckled effect. After the paint had dried, the tape was removed creating space for students to write their story using the words and sentences that had been brainstormed.

Today, students created a crayon resist piece of art. Students used black crayon to draw a picture. Then, still using the black crayon, they created designs in different sections of their drawing. After the designs were complete, each design area was colored in. Finally, tempera paint was used to wash over the colored area. These works of art are on display in the A wing hallway.
